5.5 Million km² of Area
Amazon Rainforest is covering many countries with about 5.5 million km² area. Only 6% surface is covered by the rainforest in which 3% is covered in Amazon which is located in territory of nine countries.
More than 5 Million Species
It has a rich ecosystem with more than 16,000 species of tree, 40,000 plant species, 1,300 bird species, 2,200 fish’s species, 427 mammals, 430 amphibian species, 380 reptile species and more than 2.5 million different insect species. A quarter of the western medicine’s ingredients originates from this Amazon rainforest only. As a report 120 drugs come from plant-derived sources and 70% of the plants identified as active against cancer cells come from the rainforest.
World’s second longest river after the Nile River
By Volume Amazon River is world’s second largest River after the Nile River. More than 2200 fish’s species are living inside this river. This River is also the source of water for all the species living in Amazon. Martin Strel holds the Guinness World Record for swimming the entire length of 5,268 m of the Amazon River for 66 days. He was the first man to swim the entire length of the Amazon River from headwaters in Peru to the Brazilian port city of Belem.
One of the Biggest carbon sink
The rainforest plays a crucial role in maintaining the global carbon levels by observing carbon dioxide. It also produces more than 20% of oxygen.
Home for Trees, Dangerous Species & Communities
More than 390 billion plus individual trees can be found in Amazon Rainforest with 16,000 species of tree. Many dangerous species like cougar, jaguar and anaconda are living in this area. Also, some the creatures, like the poison dart frog has enough venom that can kill many humans. The more than 50 indigenous communities with their own language and culture are living here.

Kapok tree is the one of the longest trees on the earth. This tree can grow to lengths of 200 ft towering over the other rainforest vegetation.

We must have seen many news and articles about the burning of our Amazon rainforest and the worst part is, we are not even doing anything to save them. It’s not just about us its also about the millions of species that are the part of Amazon. This is the sign of dangerous on the existence of Humanity. Let’s step up and do whatever we can.
